In this class, we will focus on the art of visible binding.  This type of stitching originated during the Edo Period in Japan and has been in use for hundreds of years, with different styles of decorative stitching letting individuality shine with this beautiful binding technique.

Participants are invited to bring their own pages to incorporate into their books—whether it’s treasured decorative paper, personal artwork, letters, or ephemera. These additions must be paper-based and ideally text-weight or pliable (cover stock may work, though it is stiffer than the other materials being used). Participants should be willing to trim or fold their pages to fit within their book’s format. We encourage bringing multiple options, as not all pieces may be suitable for binding.

By the end of the workshop, each person will leave with a finished book and the skills to make their own at home.

Time: 6-8pm
