Let's Talk... Wax Seals

The magic of an artisanal invitation suite is all in the details - the tactile bite of the letterpress into thick cotton stock; a perfectly matched silk ribbon; the interplay of sheer vellum and colored stock. For the stationery-obsessed, though, we love the old-fashioned, romantic sensibility of a wax seal.

The extra pop of color, personal touch, and rustic, organic edge are simply swoon-worthy. Could you imagine a Bridgerton invitation without one?

Wax seal designs often feature initials or monograms, a design detail from the invitation suite, or a meaningful symbol in the couple's life (a beloved pup, for instance).

Wax seals can be used in their traditional manner to seal an envelope, but can also be a versatile embellishment to make the invitation a "package" that becomes unwrapped once the wax seal is removed.

Maggie and Garret celebrated their new joint monogram by including the wax seals as decorative elements on all of the escort cards.

The adhesive on ready-made wax seals comes in a variety of stickiness; extra strong hold for outer envelopes, and a more gentle re-sealable tack to prevent damage to inner pieces.

While we generally prefer to use self-adhesive wax seals for simplicity, intrepid DIY couples may opt for a metal seal and wax sticks that fit into a typical glue gun and bring back the intimate art of creating their own seals.
