When we first met to dream up their letterpress wedding invitation suite, Jillian and Guy tossed out phrases like “community above all else,” “boots and babies,” and “good food, and a big ole cake”—and honestly, that told me everything I needed to know. These two are climbers who throw dinner parties, who keep a wide circle close, who know how to bring people together with generosity and intention. It’s no surprise their celebration wasn’t a single evening but a full weekend of joy tucked into the Pacific Northwest’s lush, rugged beauty.
They chose Hood River, Oregon, as their home base—a place where vineyards kiss rolling hillsides and both Mt. Hood and Mt. St Helens stand as sentinels in the distance. The weekend unfolded like a well-loved trail map: a vineyard welcome party to kick things off, a ceremony and reception with sweeping views and summer-green vines, and a send-off Sunday full of hiking, biking, and beer.
For their invitation suite, we wanted to capture that same layered, casual intimacy. The colors were soft and sun-warmed: eucalyptus green, dusty sage, sky-washed blue, and a hint of peachy orange like a sunset through tree branches. The main invitation featured a hand-drawn line illustration of the rolling hills and mountain backdrop, letterpressed in sage green, grounding the design like the earth under your feet. Above it, a clean block of modern type in eucalyptus green set the tone: elegant but unfussy, just like Jillian and Guy.
But the real heart of the suite was the detail card, a three-panel accordion fold that opened up to reveal a whimsical hand-illustrated map of the region. The Hood River itself curved across the center, acting as both geographic anchor and poetic metaphor, drawing guests into the landscape and the celebration ahead. Sweet icons marked vineyards, peaks, and events, interwoven with the schedule of festivities. Wildflowers peeked out throughout—small, sweet nods to Jillian and Guy’s shared love of the outdoors and of finding beauty on the trail.
We tucked everything into envelopes in that same eucalyptus green, lined with a custom sage paper sprinkled with dark green wildflowers, yet another subtle moment of delight waiting for each guest.
Jillian and Guy described themselves as “old souls,” more drawn to beauty and gravitas than whimsy for whimsy’s sake. And I think their invitations captured that spirit—a tactile, artful expression of a weekend that was equal parts soulful, scenic, and joyfully grounded.
This was a suite built for a celebration off the beaten path—and for a couple who lives and loves that way, too.
