Invitation designs that highlight gorgeous venue illustrations are near and dear to our heart, so when Daniel and Steven came to us with a venue that was not just a highlight, but the heart of their wedding design, the decision was easy to make it the heart of their letterpress invitation suite as well. The Tower in Boston, originally built in the late 1800’s as an armory, looks like it belongs in another era altogether, a medieval castle in the middle of our bustling city.
The invitation itself is dramatically oversized and printed in rich letterpress on an extra-thick, textured, cotton stock, featuring a gold foil illustration of the Tower’s stone facade. The delicate line drawings captures every arch, window, and brick in the impressive stone masonry, providing a beautiful contrast with the building’s weighty architecture. The gold doesn’t simply highlight, it literally makes the venue shine, a gleaming hint of the luminous celebration to come.
Art deco influences thread throughout the suite, from the distinctive letterforms to the pattern in the envelope liner, and of course the art deco light fixture from the venue featured on the detail card. All of these elements are touched with gold, including a luxurious deep gilded beveled edge, a perfect contrast to the deep navy and green palette that brings to mind the elegance and sophistication of the gilded age.
