We are excited to offer a wide variety of workshops, readings, and other special events in our studio. Let's share some space, get creative, and start some great conversations together!



Clamshell Box

Sunday, March 25, 12:00-3:00pm, $85

Come and create a clamshell box to house a book, photos, or anything you’d like to squirrel away! Learn about grain direction, tips and tricks for cutting and gluing, and how to measure an object and cut board and materials to fit so that you can continue your box making adventures at home. All tools and materials for the class will be provided and no prior binding experience is necessary.

Kate Levy is a professional bookbinder specializing in new bindings, box making and book repair.


Intro to Brush Lettering

Tuesday, March 27, 6:00-8:00pm, $70

Join Amelia & Natasha of We're Into It for a workshop to learn the basics of hand lettering with brush pens. Come learn how to add hand lettered details to your snail mail, stationery, home decor, DIY gifts, wedding materials, and more! Registration includes a take-home kit of all the brush lettering materials you need to get started – brush lettering workbook, a set of brush lettering pens, materials to create a custom piece, and a personalized gift from We're Into It.

Thankful for Spring, Intro Calligraphy

Wednesday, April 4, 6:00-9:00pm, $125

Join Boston calligrapher Liz Roessler for a small intensive beginners workshop (no previous experience necessary!) on the basics of modern pointed pen calligraphy. With beginner Romantic lettering under your belt, apply your hand in creating a series of thank you notes to take home and share. With your newfound skills and tools you'll be able to scribe all your future notes with style and grace. Each student will leave with a beginner's kit for continuing practice.


Introduction to Letterpress

Sunday, April 8, 1:00-5:00pm, $75

** Held at Arbalest Press, 523 Medford St, Charlestown, MA **

Learn the basics of creating with type! Attendees will learn type composition with real lead letters; proper lead form setup and page layout; how to set up, use and clean a Vandercook proofing press; and how to trim the prints to size. The focus will be on technical skill with an eye for producing a beautiful result. Attendees will also learn some of the history of letterpress printing, the current renaissance in letterpress, and how the instructor came to work with letterpress. Attendees will take home a set of monogrammed A-2 notecards and a set of A-2 calling cards.


Intermediate Letterpress

Sunday, April 15, 1:00-5:00pm, $75

** Held at Arbalest Press, 523 Medford St, Charlestown, MA **

Attendees will build on the basic skills from Introduction to Letterpress. We'll cover how to mix and match typefaces in more complex layouts and to typeset a longer-form personal project using smaller type. Emphasis will be on constructing a layout from mockup to final print including conceptualizing, typeface choice, final page size and placement on page. Attendees will also be able to use large wood type, lead ornaments, and antique commercial printing blocks. Attendees will take home two broadsides: a definition of a word, and a text selection of their choice. Students must have completed "Introduction to Letterpress" or similar course.


Print Your Own Postcard

April 15, 12-4pm, free

Get a behind-the-scenes look at a letterpress print studio and crank away on one of our antique presses to print your very own postcard as a commemorative keepsake from this year's Cambridge Science Festival. All ages welcome!

Modular Origami Workshop

Modular Origami

April 17 & 18, two sessions each day, 3:30-4:30pm, 6-7pm, $15

Participants in this family-friendly workshop will learn how to use traditional paper folding techniques to create intricate icosahedra and other geometric structures. Each session will focus on a different structure, so come to one or all four! Enrollment limited to 12 students per session. Suitable for ages 8 and above.

April 18, 6:30-8:30pm, $55

Explore innovative folded bookbinding structures and bind your own set of books in a playful exploration of geometric book design. No experience necessary. Enrollment limited to 12 students.  Suitable for ages 12 and above.

Field Journals

Build Your Own Field Journal

April 22, four sessions, 11am-12pm, 12:30-1:30pm, 2-3pm, 3:30-4:30pm, $20

Participants in each one hour workshop will have the opportunity to build their own field journal from start to finish. Print the cover on our antique press, then fold and assemble the interior pages with a saddle stitch staple, and finally trim the book and round the corners for a soft-cover journal to record all of your observations, ideas, and sketches about the world around you. Limited to 10 participants in each time slot. Family friendly.


Sip & Script Calligraphy Night

Tuesday, April 24, 6:30-8:00pm, $75

Whether you're a stationary nerd, DIY Bride-to-be, or a just crafty gal, Join Sip & Script for an introduction to modern calligraphy with a pointed dip pen and ink. The workshop will cover all the basics and get you ready to add those special lettered details to your snail mail, wedding paper goods, home decor and more! Class includes a take home beginner’s calligraphy kit, writing materials, light snacks and refreshments.
